CIRCULAR ECONOMY AND WASTE: TRENDS, BENEFITS AND PROSPECTS AT THE ES.D.A.K. CONFERENCE

With leading speakers from all involved bodies in the field of waste management, preparations are being completed for the holding of the 2-day Conference on

"Regional Planning of Solid Waste Management - Path to the Circular Economy", organized by the Unified Waste Management Association of Crete ( ESDAK) on Thursday 29 and Friday 30 March 2018, at the Cultural Conference Center of the Municipality of Heraklion.

At the Conference, which is being held under the auspices of the Region of Crete, the Regional Union of Municipalities of Crete and the Municipality of Heraklion and with the cooperation of the Center for European Policy and Regional Development of the University of Crete, the international trends in the promotion of circular economy policies will be presented as well as the perspectives their implementation at national and regional level.

The main objectives of the Conference are to provide a broad update of the directions of the EU. in achieving the goals that have been set, but also to highlight the opportunities that emerge from the change in the institutional and financial framework of solid waste management projects. At the same time, to present the best practices and to have an expanded discussion on the design of the required infrastructures, highlighting the way in which the Local Management Plans contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the Regional Planning.

Statement of the President of ESDAK H. Mamoulakis

A few days before the realization of an important meeting of exchange of experiences, proposals and practices in Heraklion, we already feel the positive impact created by this initiative of ESDAK. We are happy that we will have extremely experienced executives who can give us useful directions, as well as the whole of the Self-Government of Crete, Regional and Local, to highlight their own plans, positions and proposals. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Regional Governor of Crete Stavros Arnautakis as well as the President of the PED of Crete and Mayor of Heraklion Vassilis Lambrinos, who put the Conference under the auspices of the leading self-governing institutions of our country, as well as the Center for European Politics and Regional Development of the University of Crete for our cooperation.

The Conference will start at 10:00 am on Thursday, March 29 at the Cultural-Conference Center of the Municipality of Heraklion and in the following days the detailed program of the presentations will be made public.
